Our Mission Statement
We here at the Lee-Jung campaign believe in one main thing: every Stuyvesant student is special, and each of their voices deserves to be heard. Last year, only three-hundred thirty-three (333) students out of nine-hundred twelve (912) voted in the Freshman Caucus election. While this was a surprisingly high voter turnout, compared to previous elections, we believe that it could be and should be much higher. The role of the caucus has never been made clear to the students, so we would first like to share how our campaign envisions the ideal caucus. We believe that the ideal caucus serves to connect their respective grades to the Student Union, which in turn connects the students to the staff. We represent this connection through the bridge in our logo as well as our motto: The Bridge Between The Students And The School. Our campaign will uphold this connection by making sure that the voices of the sophomores are heard, and more importantly, acted on. Now, you might be asking, who are these people and why do they deserve to be my connection to the SU and the administration? First off, we are Daniel Jung and Ryan Lee of the Lee-Jung ticket. To read more in-depth about us and each member of our team, feel free to scroll down to our “Team” page! While we may not be the incumbents, we still believe that we qualified to represent the sophomore class. We have been working on our campaign for a long time, specifically, since Monday, March 23rd. Since then, we have been researching and developing our platform as well as assembling our team. We have had bumps along the way, but these difficulties have only given us further preparation and made up for what we lack. Through all of this, we have gone through the processes of hiring a team, delegating work, motivating said team, and reaching out to members of the student union and the administration, all of which are necessary skills for leading a caucus. But our campaign is more than these skills, it is built upon three core ideals, or arches: Transparency, Inclusivity, and Progression.

Our Arches

Why We Call Them Arches
The arch bridge is capable of supporting the most weight when compared to other various bridge structures. Arches, by definition, are one of the strongest support structures in architecture and have been around since the time of the ancient Romans. Arches represent a strong base that some of the world’s greatest structures, such as Buckingham Palace or the Colosseum, have been built upon. Therefore, we decided to call the main tenets of our campaign, Transparency, Inclusivity, and Progression, our “arches.” These arches represent the base, the most fundamental ideals of our campaign. And we hope that, along with the structures they hold up around the world, that our arches will support and strengthen our platform, as well as form the bridge between the students and the school.

Transparency
Our transparency arch is centered around communication and openness with the student body. As a caucus, we intend to represent the entire sophomore class. One of the most important ways we plan to uphold this arch is by giving the student body regular, clear, and informative updates on the caucus’ progress on various projects and events. In addition to this, we want to improve our caucus constantly based on the suggestions of our peers. Our caucus represents the sophomore class and thus we need to be as transparent and true to the student body as possible.

Inclusivity
Our inclusivity arch is an example of how our campaign realizes the importance of diversity in our schools, and Stuyvesant is a very diverse school, whether it is in terms of identities, ideas, or opinions. We realize the importance of this diversity and we are dedicated to promoting inclusivity between all students at Stuyvesant. We believe that the voice of every single student matters and everyone should be included in the discussion. To ensure that every student’s voice is heard, and as an added bonus, to make sure that our events are received well, we would survey the students on what types of events they would prefer or who to invite to our latest speaker series. The second part of our inclusivity arch is diversity, which is reflected in our team. We all come from different walks of life and hold varying ideals. But despite these differences, we came together with a common goal to serve the people of Stuyvesant, with the belief that in discussions involving the students, every student’s voice deserves to be heard. This principle is what our Inclusivity arch stands for, and why we made it one of the centerpieces of our campaign.

Progression
Our progression arch includes both the continuance of the projects of past caucuses and the development of new projects. We as a campaign understand that the continuance of successful projects provides a foundation for a successful caucus, but it is also important to improve upon and make progress from older policies. We intend on continuing and improving on successful projects from past caucuses, such as events and study guides. However, progression also contains the word progress, and to show this, we plan on introducing new ideas, like holding online speaker series talks, or starting an umbrella renting system. We are hoping that future student governments are able to build upon and improve the work that we do, such as expanding rainy days to the entire school or, as always, continuing on the path to hopefully, one day, pass the Coming In Early policy.
